We're all fucked. It helps to remember that.
George Carlin

June 23, 2008

I cannot begin to find the words to express how utterly stunned and saddened I am by the death of my mentor and friend George Carlin. He is one of those comics whose loss is irreplaceable. The world will be less funny now. And I will miss his insights into the madness we live through. I consider myself lucky to have met him and his support of my work, completely unsolicited, was a gift I could never repay....Lewis

A nice tribute to George Carlin over at Gawker.com

Tonight's Top Ten...

Great news!!! Me of Little Faith will debut on the New York Times best seller list at #9 next week! A fabulous opening to be sure!! Big thanks to everyone who purchased the book and came out to the signings. Still have another week of the book tour left, so check the schedule and come out if you are in the neighborhood. Oh, and Father's Day is coming up. I bet you don't have present for dear old dad, do you? Hmmmmm...I wonder what would make his day? Certainly not another tie. Seriously, don't make me spell it out.

No Free Lunch
June 9, 2008

Did you enjoy that YouTube vid on the front page? What? You didn't watch it? Sheesh..go, watch, I'll wait.....

Ok, now that you know what I'm talking about....That was put together by the fine folks at the Service Employees International Union, whose cause Lewis has thrown his support behind. Here's a bit from their press release regarding this new video with Lewis....

"Groundbreaking comedian Lewis Black stars in "No Free Lunch." Written and directed by Antonino D'Ambrosio, "No Free Lunch" is presented by SEIU, which represents 1.5 million public service workers, nurses, hospital staff, nursing home-care providers, building services and security guards. The video was produced by La Lutta NMC in partnership with Noise Pop Industries. Lewis "rants" on income inequality and its affect on American workers. No Free Lunch is the first in a series of short films starring some of the country's top entertainers. The film series addresses income inequality and other economic injustices in America. There's is a shorter version of the piece here

MAC AwardsA few weeks ago the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and clubs held the 22nd annual MAC Awards Show at BB King's Blues Club in New York City. The MAC Awards are presented annually to "honor achievements in Cabaret, Comedy, and Jazz. The Awards encompass more that two dozen categories. In addition, through special awards, MAC salutes outstanding contributions to the field of live entertainment." This year Lewis as the proud recipient of the MAC "Outstanding Achievement in Comedy." On winning the award Lewis said, "Considering the level of bitterness I play at, it's hard to believe I even have an audience"

During his recent run at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C., Lewis took time to stop by the Naval Medical Center at Bethesda to cheer up recovering vets from the Iraq war. Here he is pictured with CAPT Shari H. Kirshner, MSC, USN.

One of Lewis' plays, In Between Songs, will be showcased in the Ensemble Studio Theatre's 30th annual one-act play marathon. Written by Lewis in the mid 80's, the play was first produced at the West Bank Downstairs Theater.

Marathon 2008, running May 8 - June 28, presents short works from emerging and established playwrights. Grouped in three different series, the works will be performed in a rotating repertory.

Brief synopsis of the play......
While listening to a Dylan Album, a group of friends indulge in recreational substances which leads them into a mind bending and out of this world conversation.

In Between Songs will be presented along with 4 others plays Thursday - Monday starting June 6 and running through June 28th. For more info or to purchase tickets, please check out BroadwayWorld.com or the Ensemble Studio website.
