A Charitable Side
January 26, 2010
Some of you are well aware of Lew's charitable nature, but many do not realize how much time and effort he puts into organizations close to his heart. Tonic.com just did a great article on this charitable side of Lew. Hopefully it will inspire those who aren't already volunteering to do so.

Emergency Benefit Concert for Haiti
January 17, 2010
PATTI SMITH, SWELL SEASON, JOSH RITTER, LEWIS BLACK, LIVING COLOUR, ROSANNE CASH AND MANY OTHERS SUPPORT HAITI OVER 4 NIGHTS AT CITY WINERY IN NYC.
City Winery hosts 4 nights: Wednesday, Jan. 20, Thursday, Jan. 21, Sunday, Jan. 24, Monday, Jan. 25
Felix Augustin, Haiti's Consul General in NY will join on Wednesday, Jan. 20th.
We need your help to raise $100,000 in four nights to help the victims of Haiti's catastrophic earthquake. No country in the Western Hemisphere has been battered more than Haiti in the last 500 years—the nearly complete annihilation of its native population over two decades, a brutal slave regime, ongoing foreign military interventions over hundreds of years, brutal dictatorships supported by western powers, blockades of aid and more recently, devastating natural disasters from hurricanes to this latest earthquake.
Lewis will be joined by Vernon Reid & Corey Glover of Living Colour, Rich Pagano & The Sugarcane Cups, Marshall Crenshaw and David Johansen on Thursday January 21st. Tax deductible tickets are $50 and 100% of the proceeds go to Wyclef Jean's YELE organization and Partner's in Health.

SURVIVING THE HOLIDAYS WITH LEWIS BLACK
Two-hour Special Premieres on November 23 at 8pm ET on HISTORY™
Thanksgiving … the Festival of Lights … Christmas Eve. Parade, shopping, family, cards, travel – and effort. Ho, ho, ho! ’Tis the season of survival. We begin a marathon of stress on Thanksgiving, and keep running till we stagger across the finish line on New Year's Day – with a hangover, a potbelly, and enough credit-card debt to make our heads explode.
Following his successful 2008 special History of the Joke, the “Curmudgeon of Comedy” returns to HISTORY to make sense of this 36-day, end-of-year insanity that consumes us all. Armed with history, humor and his trademark ranting, the Grammy winner takes a comedic look at how to survive the “month-long festival of consumption” without losing your mind. The two-hour special, SURVIVING THE HOLIDAYS WITH LEWIS BLACK, premieres on Monday, November 23 at 8pm ET.
Lewis consults experts in holiday history, anxiety and gift giving. He explores the meaning of Kwanzaa, the history of Chanukah, and the real Saint Nicholas. He interviews turkeys on a turkey farm. He discovers why we drink on New Year’s Eve and why the Detroit Lions always play on Thanksgiving Day. He does a stint as a department store Santa with kids and learns about the Major League Dreidel playoffs. In classic Lewis Black style, he riffs on Hanukkah. During the holidays, we’re expected to smile through an avalanche of responsibilities: cooking, shopping, wrapping, drinking, card-writing, family gatherings, office parties, bills… but how? And why?
Throughout the special, fellow comedians bring vastly different perspectives to holiday anxiety. They include Bob Saget, Craig Ferguson, Ron White, Joy Behar, Larry Miller, Richard Belzer, David Alan Grier, Shelley Berman, Rip Taylor, Nancy Giles, Franklyn Ajaye, among others. Their survival tips run the gamut from stocking up on Vicodin and Ace bandages to being born in Europe to changing the name of Black Friday to “Mauve Friday.” Even sports writer Mike Lupica is on hand to share, among other things, what his wife expects him to do over the holidays. Lewis’s advice? “It's hard to find something to help you survive … so I do what I love the most: I complain.”
Last Words
November 9, 2009
George Carlin passed away in June of 2008, leaving quite the void in the world of comedy. But Tues, Nov 10th, we get a small piece of him back as his memoir hits shelves nationwide. This book began to take shape in 1993 when Carlin asked his friend and bestselling author Tony Hendra to help him write his autobiography. For almost fifteen years, through scores of conversations, the two discussed Carlin's life, times, and evolution as a major artist. When Carlin died with the book still unpublished, Hendra set out to assemble it as his friend would have wanted. Last Words is the result, the rollicking, wrenching story of Carlin's life from birth -- literally -- to his final years, as well as a parting gift of laughter to the world of comedy he helped create.
As most of you know, George Carlin meant a great deal to Lewis and he had this to say about the memoir, "A book for anyone who adored this man and his work as much as I did. A wonderful opportunity to be in his presence again."
And Kelly Carlin wanted to say this to all of Lew's fans who loved her dad, "I know many of you are fans of my dad too. And although he is no longer here, THANK GOD we have Lewis Black, one of the smartest, funniest and kindest men on earth. Enjoy the book!"
